How to Stay Safe on the Water with Live Tracking

At Waterspeed, safety is just as important as performance. Whether you’re heading out alone or exploring a new spot, Live Tracking helps you stay connected and gives friends or family peace of mind while you’re on the water.

What Is Live Tracking?

Live Tracking lets someone follow your session in real time. Once activated, Waterspeed shares your location, speed, and route as you move — so others can see where you are and know you’re safe. It’s a simple way to add an extra layer of security to every session.

How to Use Live Tracking

Make it stand out

Live Tracking is available on Apple Watch, iOS, and Android.

To get started, open the app and turn on Live Track before you begin your session. You’ll receive a private link that you can share with anyone you choose — they’ll be able to follow your route live from their phone or browser.

If you’re using a Garmin device, you can use Garmin’s native LiveTrack feature, which works in the same way to share your real-time location directly through Garmin Connect.

Tips for Staying Safe

A few simple steps go a long way:

  • Always check the forecast before you head out — wind, tide, and visibility can change fast.

  • Share your Live Track link with a friend or family member before launching.

  • Keep your device charged — GPS and mobile data can drain battery faster on long sessions.

  • Use a waterproof case or pouch if you’re tracking from your phone.

Review After Your Session

Once you’re back on land, your Live Track ends automatically and your full session is saved in Waterspeed. You can review your route, compare it to conditions, and use those insights to plan your next safe and successful outing.

Stay connected. Stay safe.

Live Tracking is just one of the ways Waterspeed helps you make every session smarter and more secure.
