Is the GPS speed accurate?
Waterspeed uses the GPS of your phone or watch. Watches with dual-frequency GPS, such as Apple Watch Ultra, give the most accurate speed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Recording works without a data connection; the session syncs when you are back online.
Is it free?
Recording is free and unlimited. Pro unlocks full data on every session.
Can I see my boat speed in knots?
Yes. Choose knots in Settings on iPhone and on Apple Watch. Distance can be shown in nautical miles.
Why does GPS speed differ from my boat's log?
GPS measures speed over ground, how fast you move over the seabed. A paddlewheel log measures speed through the water. With the current behind you GPS speed is higher; against it, lower.
How do I get the most accurate reading?
Allow precise location for Waterspeed and keep the phone where it can see the sky. On Android, also turn off battery saving for the app so it keeps recording.
