Waterspeed for Android
Waterspeed records sailing, windsurf, wingfoil, kitesurf, SUP and 30+ watersports on an Android phone or a Wear OS watch, and syncs sessions from Garmin, COROS and Suunto. The Android app also calculates alpha speeds, lets you fix tacks and gybes by hand and imports files directly.

How do I set up my phone so it records the whole session?
Android phones close apps in the background to save battery, so check these settings before your first session:
- Allow Location for Waterspeed with precise accuracy.
- Allow notifications for Waterspeed.
- Turn off Battery Saver for Waterspeed and for the phone.
- Set background mode to “Always-on” in Waterspeed’s settings and in the phone’s battery settings.
- Check your phone model on dontkillmyapp.com for any extra setting.
If one of these is off, Android can stop the recording.
How do I install Waterspeed on a Wear OS watch?
Install Waterspeed from Google Play on the watch, or from Google Play on the phone choosing the watch as the device. If you are signed in on the phone, the watch signs in by itself. More: Waterspeed for Wear OS.
FAQ
Does Waterspeed work on Samsung phones and Galaxy Watch? Yes. Waterspeed is on Google Play for Android phones, and runs on Galaxy Watch and other watches with Wear OS 3.0 or later.
Can I use a Garmin with an Android phone? Yes. Connect Garmin in Waterspeed’s Settings and new watersport sessions sync from Garmin Connect. See Garmin.
Can I import Vakaros Atlas sessions on Android? Yes. Export the VKX file from the Vakaros app, then in Waterspeed go to Diary > Import. See Vakaros.
Is stroke rate available on Android? No. Stroke rate uses the Apple Watch’s sensors, so it is available on Apple Watch only.
If I subscribe on Android, does it work on my iPad? Yes. A subscription activated on Android carries over to your iPad, so you don’t pay twice. It is linked to the account you are signed in with.
