If jumps matter to you, pick Hoolan (free, Apple Watch and Garmin), Surfr or WOO: they measure jump height and Waterspeed does not. If you care about jibes, foiling time and speed over a season, Waterspeed and WindsportTracker go deepest; Waterspeed also syncs from Garmin, Coros and Suunto, records on Wear OS, and covers 30+ watersports in one app.

Compared as of October 2026, from each app’s App Store page (US) and website and, for Waterspeed, its help centre. We make Waterspeed; corrections welcome at support@waterspeedapp.com.

How do the wingfoil tracking apps compare?

Hoolan, Surfr and WOO measure jumps. Waterspeed and WindsportTracker are the two that list both jibe stats and foiling or planing time.

“Not listed” means the feature is not in the app’s store description or on its website.

Waterspeed

Waterspeed tracks wingfoil on iPhone, Android, Apple Watch, Garmin and Wear OS, or syncs sessions from Coros and Suunto. You get foiling time (you set the minimum speed), every jibe and tack with entry and exit speed and whether it was made, best speeds and alpha runs, and session comparison over the season. Ultra adds a quality rating per jibe, VMG and upwind/downwind legs. For downwinders, live tracking works from iPhone, Android or Apple Watch. The same app covers wing, windsurf, kite, sailing, SUP and more. See Waterspeed for wingfoil.

Less suited if: you want jump height. Waterspeed does not measure jumps.

Hoolan

Hoolan tracks kite, wing and windsurf on Apple Watch and Garmin, and all its features are free. It records jumps (height, airtime, distance), runs (upwind and downwind gain, max speed over 100 m and 500 m) and transitions (success rate, entry and exit speed). Sessions export to Strava, Apple Health, GPX and FIT. See Waterspeed vs Hoolan.

Less suited if: you track sports outside wind sports, want to record with the phone alone, or ride with a Wear OS, Coros or Suunto watch.

Surfr

Surfr tracks kite, wing and windsurf from the phone and detects jumps (height, airtime). It also has session replay, a spot map with live wind and webcams, a safety beacon for your contacts, competitions and gear logging. Plus adds Garmin recording and full session analytics; Pro adds Apple Watch and Wear OS tracking, coaching and downwinder navigation. See Waterspeed vs Surfr.

Less suited if: you want jibe-by-jibe stats or foiling time; neither is listed.

WindsportTracker

WindsportTracker is a detailed GPS logbook. It shows tacks, jibes, power jibes and 360s with success rate by side, speed profiles including alpha, planing and flying time, wave rides and gear comparison, with analysis on the web. It records on iPhone and Apple Watch and imports files from Garmin, Suunto, Polar and Coros. There is a 27-day free trial.

Less suited if: you want automatic sync from a Garmin rather than file import.

WOO Sports

WOO is a kite and wing community app built around games: Big Air (highest jump) and Freestyle. Freeride GPS sessions from the phone or Apple Watch are free, with jump height estimates on Apple Watch. Big Air and Freestyle sessions need a WOO sensor; the WOO PRO membership adds analytics, live, safety and crew features.

Less suited if: you want jibe or foiling stats; neither is listed.

How do you choose a wingfoil tracking app?

Start from what you want to measure, then check that the app works with your watch.

  1. For jumps: Hoolan (free), Surfr or WOO.
  2. For jibes, foiling time and progress over a season: Waterspeed or WindsportTracker.
  3. On a Garmin: Waterspeed and Hoolan record on the watch or sync automatically, Surfr records on Garmin with Plus, and WindsportTracker imports files.
  4. For several watersports in one app: Waterspeed.
