Its December 2026 calendar lists the Summer Twilight Series prizegiving on 2 December, the Festive Twilight Race on 9 December and the Dassen Island Cruise on 12 and 13 December. Cape Town Race Week has also been sailed in December. A Cape 31 regatta reported 15 to 18 knots. More on sailing.

What should you watch out for?

  • Kite Beach gets very crowded in peak summer.
  • North of Blouberg there are heavy cliffs; only very experienced riders should go past them.
  • The water at Blouberg is around 13 to 14 °C, so bring a 4/3 mm wetsuit.
  • On Miller’s Run, expect shore break at the launch, swell breaking on Miller’s Point, reefs near the lighthouse and Sunny Cove, fishing boats on the ramp and fading light. A PFD helps if cold water gives you cramp.
  • Fish Hoek is one of four City of Cape Town beaches with Shark Spotters all year.
  • In Table Bay, watch for kelp beds inshore at Granger Bay and Green Point.
