Taíba kitesurf guide: wind, waves and when to go
Taíba, on the Ceará coast west of Fortaleza, is known for its waves. It has strong trade wind in December and January, a little less in February, and suits beginners and strapless riders.

Taíba is worth the trip for kitesurf in December and January, and still rideable in February. Kite Jungle counts 30 windy days in December and 28 in January, falling to 22 in February. The draw is the waves, which make Taíba kitesurf a favourite with strapless riders, while beginners also learn here.
Facts as of November 2026, from the sources listed at the end of this page.
What is kitesurfing in Taíba like?
Taíba is a wave spot. bahia.ws calls it famous for its waves, and Strapless Kitesurfing writes of good waves and more than 20 knots every day during the season. The same article calls Taíba “a crib for beginners and also a great training spot for more experienced strapless riders”, so it is not only for experts. It is also a surf spot when the wind drops.
When is the wind season in Taíba?
Strapless Kitesurfing places the season in the second half of the year. None of our sources gives exact start and end months, so use the monthly figures below and a local forecast.
| Month | Days with 4 Bft (about 12 knots) or more | Average wind |
|---|---|---|
| December | 30 | 13 knots |
| January | 28 | 11 knots |
| February | 22 | 10 knots |
These are Kite Jungle’s figures; Windfinder has no statistics for Taíba. The wind comes from the east-south-east to south-east, at about 126 to 138 degrees.
Is February still windy?
Less so. Kite Jungle’s count drops from 28 days in January to 22 in February, and the average falls to 10 knots. Bring a bigger kite and expect a few days off the water. December is the strongest of the three months.
What should you watch out for?
None of our sources lists specific hazards for Taíba. In a wave spot that does not mean there are none: ask a local school about rocks, currents and the best launch for the tide before your first session.
How do you get there?
Fly to Fortaleza (FOR). bahia.ws gives about 60 to 72 km from Fortaleza; its own table lists both figures. Cumbuco is closer to the airport, and Paracuru is further west along the same coast. See the kitesurf page for what Waterspeed tracks on a wave session.
