Apple Health can’t export a single workout. You can export all your health data at once from the Health app, or use an app such as HealthFit or RunGap to export one workout as a FIT or GPX file. If the session is on the water, recording it with the Waterspeed watch app skips the export altogether.

As of October 2026, from Apple’s support pages and the App Store pages of HealthFit and RunGap.

How do I export all my Apple Health data?

  1. Open the Health app on your iPhone.
  2. On the Summary tab, tap your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Tap Export All Health Data, then Export.
  4. Share or save the ZIP file.

Apple documents the export as XML. Users report that the ZIP also holds a folder of workout routes as GPX files; Apple does not document this, so check your own export. The ZIP can be large if you have years of data.

How do I export one workout as FIT or GPX?

Use an app that reads your workouts from Apple Health and writes them as files:

App Exports Cost
HealthFit FIT, GPX, CSV Paid app
RunGap Several formats Free download; export needs its subscription

Both ask for permission to read your workouts. Pick FIT where the app offers it, since it keeps speed and heart rate as well as the track.

How do I see my speed from the file?

Drop the GPX or FIT file into the free GPX and FIT analyzer for top speed, best 10 seconds, best 500 m and your track on a map. The file stays in your browser. To keep the session with full analysis, import it into the Waterspeed web app at go.waterspeedapp.com. More in how to open a GPX or FIT file.

Can I skip the export?

Yes, for new sessions. Start the session in the Waterspeed app on your Apple Watch and it syncs to your account by itself, with best speeds, tacks and gybes and a replay. The workout is also written to Apple Health. See Waterspeed for Apple Watch.
